As Athletic Director I would like to take a moment to acknowledge one of our student athletes - Carter Amson. Carter is in Grade 10 and plays hockey for the Saskatoon Blazers (Midget AAA). He is also drafted by the Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL). Recently Carter and his team played a best of five series against the Saskatoon Contacts. It was a back and forth series with the final decision coming last Saturday in Game 5. Unfortunately the Blazers lost. However, there is no reason for Carter to hang his head. I went and watched 3 of the 5 games. Actually, a large portion of the Senior Boy's volleyball team attended one game as a windup. We shot some video and below you can see Carter block a shot for a breakaway during a penalty kill. Although Carter played extremely well and tried his hardest (as he always does) it was how he conducted himself that really stood out to me. After a tough loss and an end to their season following Game 5, Carter came off the bench, went to his teammates and gave them a tap on the shinpads, a punch in the arm, tap on the shoulder, etc... Although he is not the Captain of the team and, in his first year, is considered a rookie, here he was taking on a leadership role and demonstrating tremendous control and sportsmanship. Well done Carter. Keep your stick on the ice.

Well, the Grade 10's basketball season is off and rolling. The boys have played Poundmaker, Macklin, Lashburn, Spiritwood, and Maidstone. Although they have yet to capture their first "W" they have had a couple close ones, losing by only a few points. The boys are scheduled to play in Lashburn tomorrow (March 7th) but it will likely be rescheduled due to parent teacher interviews. The boys are off to Conferences in Thunderchild this Friday and Saturday (March 9th and 10th). After that, they still have some games scheduled as well as a tournament in Macklin. If they place in the top two at Conferences they will move onto Regionals. Good luck to the boys! The boys were kind enough to provide us with a little game footage. Featured below is a short clip illustrating D.J's dunking skills...

An interview can be requested by a teacher or parent. More information will be sent out with Report Cards (K-6) and Interim Reports (7-12) on Friday, March 2nd. The Grade 5/6 students created machines inspired by Rube Goldberg. They applied their knowledge of simple machines to create them. Check it out! Great work, Grade 5/6!
